Ex Novo - Septem

Portland, OR

Wild Ale Spontaneously Fermented on Pinot Noir Grapes

Ex Novo was started in 2014 in the Eliot neighborhood of Portland (hence the name for their beloved IPA). This beer was brewed for their seventh anniversary in 2021, and its a Wild Ale spontaneously fermented on 2 harvests of Columbia River Gorge Pinot Noir grapes and then aged in oak barrels for 2 years. So this beer is over four years old at this point.

It’s pours with a gorgeous deep hue. Almost a violet. It’s has mild acidic and not cloying at all. Tastes strongly of Pinot Noir, one of the most Pinot forward beers of this style I’ve ever had. Mild oak tannins and subtle funk. Good times and tasting great right now.

Hill Farmstead Arthur

Greensboro, VT

Farmstead Ale 6%

Hill Farmstead is a 15 year old brewery in Vermont that’s known for their Belgian and Mixed Fermentation projects, they’re one of the most celebrated breweries in the world. Coming to Oregon for the first time, they sent out a lot of beer for the de Garde 10th Anniversary party on the coast. We were lucky enough to get a couple cases and then we’ll have a Lager & and an IPA by them this month as well. We’re very excited to feature these beers.

Pours a beautiful golden hue with a good solid head that retains nicely. Classic barnyard funk on the nose with a nice tart lemony taste that lingers for a minute. This beer is delicious as hell and is a perfect hot day beer. Very quenching.
