Firestone Tasting 1/18

firestone_walker_logo2.jpg

firestone_walker_logo2 "It began innocently enough: a couple of brothers-in-law sitting around debating the subject of good and bad beer. Instead, their search for a decent ale led them to brew their own. Given Mr. Firestone’s winemaking bias and Mr. Walker’s complete lack of fermentation experience, they believed 60-gallon oak barrels were the appropriate vehicle in which to create their perfect elixir.

OK, so initial attempts were forgettable. But like so many great ideas, out of that disaster was born a handy invention – the Firestone Union. Based on classic brewing traditions from Burton-Upon Trent, this bizarre and unlikely system of linked barrels has the ability to produce rich and complex ales. In 1996 the accidental duo shelved their endless discussion on better beers and settled for building a world-class brewery that bore their names on California’s Central Coast……the debate was now over."

Tasting 5-8pm

Southern Oregon Brewing 1/24

SOB-2.png

  SOB

"Our beer loving founder and president, Dr. Tom Hammond, developed a passion for microbrewed beer during his medical school days in Seattle, Washington.

In recent years, the Medford anesthesiologist shared with friends some amazing home brews. When a dear friend passed away before launching a long-planned enterprise in 2004, Hammond decided to follow his dream and set the wheels in motion for the launching of the Southern Oregon Brewing Company.

Of course, a great brewery demands a first class head brewer and Tom found the right person in the humble genius, Anders Johansen. With tenures at some of the Northwest’s most well-known breweries, Pyramid and Deschutes, as well as a couple of start-ups, Anders not only brought a wealth of knowledge to S.O.B., he also shares Tom’s passion toward an uncompromised personal approach to brewing.

Southern Oregon Brewing Company is a locally owned craft brewery that produces the region’s premier craft beer with a total commitment to independence, integrity, community and superior customer service. When the brewery was founded in the summer of 2006, after a year of planning and research, we had three things in mind….Make Amazing Beer!  Have Fun, and Take Care of Your People!  The foundation of our corporation will be the production of high quality, flavorful and consistent products without compromise. We will never deviate from that mindset."

Vanberg and DeWulf Tasting 2/8

saison.png

Tasting starts at 5pm! saison

Vanberg & DeWulf has the most decorated portfolio in the annals of U.S. Belgian beer importing. Always these beers come from independent, family-run breweries.

From the outset, Vanberg & DeWulf has been dedicated to importing the finest example of every indigenous style brewed in Belgium. In our Belgian Classics collection you will find some sixteen distinct styles: Saisons, Abbey Singels, Dobbels and Tripels, Lambics, Strong Golden Ales, Wit beer, Belgian Pils, Bière de Table, fruit beer, Christmas beer, Belgian Stout, Gruit and Spéciale Ale, even a “sour” Tripel blended with Gueuze, and honey beer. Sometimes they are also organic.

These are the creations of five remarkable breweries. The oldest, Dubuisson, was founded in 1769 (before Belgium was a country); the newest, Dilewyns, is less than a year old. As an assemblage they showcase the unrivaled Belgian talent for creating beers of unique flavor, fermentation, aging and ingredients. Respect for tradition and raucous individualism are on display in equal measure. Our love of Belgium, and our desire to have you share our passion, is what drives the curating and editing of the beers we present to you.

The breweries in Tourpes, Pipaix, Dendermonde, Ninove and Gooik are radically different from one to another—reflecting their unique histories and communities, their varied regional brewing traditions and local architecture.Dupont is a farmstead in Hainaut in a sweetly rural setting. Dubuisson is a proud elegant pantile-roofed brewery complex on an ancient Roman road. Slaghmuylder presides like a little commercial fiefdom over the small municipality of Ninove—itself situated on the medieval trade route between Flanders and Brabant in the ancestral grain belt of Belgium. Nearby in East Flanders on the mouth of the River Dender, the Dilewyns Brewery is starkly modern but the emblem on their labels makes reference to Ros Beiard, the heroic horse who saved his masters from capture by Charlemagne. De Cam occupies a barn on the grounds of a museum of folk life in Gooik, “the pearl of Payottenland,” in the heart of Lambic country. It is a setting right out of Breughel. Seeing how different the settings and styles of the breweries are, it is impossible to deny that there is truth to the notion of terroir in beer. The more you know, the better these beers taste. Join us in exploring them all.

Two Kilts Tasting 11/23

Two-Kilts-Brewing-Co.

Two Kilts Brewing Company was founded by two great friends in the summer of 2009.  Chris and Alex had found them selves talking about starting up a brewery many times and finally after who knows really how many times it came up it was decided that a new brewery would be born.

Chris had an extensive background of many many years with home brewing and had been told by many that his beers should be brought to market.  Alex had many years of home brewing experience as well but also had something Chris did not, and that was a vast knowledge of commercial brewing since that was his current line of work.  This made for a very comfortable relationship beyond just being good friends to start a new nano brewery.

Stop by from 3pm to 6pm on Saturday, November 23rd to see just what makes this Sherwood Brewery so dear to our hearts!
