mazama1.jpg

The Klamath tell many stories of the powerful gods Llao and Skell whose fights created the explosion of Mount Mazama. In 5700 BC this eruption created Oregon's famous Crater Lake. Llao's head is said to be the creaggy Wizard Island.

Mazama Brewing is a packaging brewery in Corvallis Oregon own and operated by Jeff and Kathy Tobin. They started home brewing in 1984 and knew they had found a passion in their new hobby. Their brewing pursuits included making beer styles that were once very difficult to find in the United States. This finally led to a long delay trip the Belgium in 2011, which provided the inspiration to start Mazama brewing.

After spending nearly 30 years as an electrical engineer, Jeff left the high-tech world to pursue brewing full-time in 2013. He has found that his project management, engineering and science background serves him well as head brewer at Mazama.

Kathy as recently retired as an executive leading a high-tech printing and computing business unit. Her years of experience have helped create a solid foundation for Mazama Brewing's success.

Using the finest traditional cider apples, and paying attention to every detail, we craft approachable yet refined cider; beverages that honor and respect their historical origins. We also respect our customers, and so we create modern blends and flavors that remain true to our ideals. The contents of each bottle are created through a meticulous process in which the fruit is handpicked, crushed, fermented, and bottled - every step accomplished by the labor of our three founders. This allows us to ensure the quality of our cider. We hope you actively enjoy the rebirth of this refreshing American drink.

stone

Established in 1996, the brewery's first beer was Stone Pale Ale, which the company considers to be its flagship ale. Most of their beers are characteristic of west-coast craft brews, meaning that they have a high hop content. Compared to the macro-produced lagers, many Stone brews feature alcohol percentages that are well above average. The alcohol-by-volume content of Stone brews ranges from 4.4% to 13%.

Stone Brewing is rated as a "world class brewery" by the two largest beer enthusiast websites, RateBeer and BeerAdvocate. Stone Brewing has been voted by the readers of Beer Advocate as the #1 "All Time Top Brewery on Planet Earth."

The Commons at Uptown! 3/22

Commons-TR.jpg

Commons-TR

The Commons was born as Beetje Brewery in the garage of Mike Wright on a 1 barrel nano system. It did not take long before Mike was dreaming of expanding the operation and upgrading to a true commercial system. That dream was realized with a new space and a new 7bbl system in Fall of 2011.

The Commons strives to make well executed, moderate alcohol beers with a refreshing and unique character (most often with yeasts originating from Europe). The beers are geared to be session-able and therefore enable or enhance social interaction. For consumers, the focus should be on friends and family they are sharing time with (gather around beer).

Portland Cider Ladies Night Tasting! 3/12

portland-cider.jpg

portland cider Portland Cider Company was started in the fall of 2012 by an Oregonian and a family of British expats with the mission of bringing handcrafted cider in the English tradition to the northwest.

What do you do when you’re frustrated by the quality of the commercial cider available?  You start making your own!  What do you do when friends and family keep telling you it’s the best cider they’ve ever had?  You start a business!  That is the essence of how the Portland Cider Company got its start.  Founded by Jeff Parrish, an Oregon native, and his wife Lynda, an ex-patriot from the Somerset region of England (the Mecca of cider), the Portland Cider Company is based on the belief that good cider comes from good fruit, honest practices, and attention to detail.

Buckman Botanical Brewery at Uptown! 3/13

  buckman

Buckman is a low-hop, no-hop brewery that specializes in traditional and experimental styles of beer & cider with a botanical twist. While many craft beers are characterized by their malt and hop character, Buckman beers feature tea, chamomile, ginger, and other herbs and spices.

The Buckman name comes from the neighborhood in SE Portland where we brew beer. The neighborhood is named for Cyrus Buckman, an orchardist who farmed in the area during the turn of the century.

The small 15-barrel brewery is located inside the Green Dragon, where Buckman maintains five of sixty two taps. Buckman also shares its one-barrel nano brewsystem with the Green Dragon Brew Crew - a collective of local homebrewers. Brewers get the opportunity to brew small batch beers, which are then released on tap at the Green Dragon every Wednesday.

The perfect balance of taste and aroma. An obsession with ingredients. An exploration of techniques. And while we savor the result, we’re just as fascinated by the process to get there. What started as a small group of home brewers, who simply wanted to make a better beer, evolved into the adventurers known today as Ballast Point.

Lagunitas Tasting & First Thursday! 3/6

Lagunitas Tasting 3/6/13 at Uptown Market

Lagunitas tasting at Uptown on Thursday, March 6th from 5pm-8pm!

"From points distant and beyond we all converged on Petaluma in 1993 and ’94 with an unenunciated desire to be more than we were before. The core of Lagunitas came from Chicago, St Louis, Memphis, Walker Creek, and the highlands of Quincy.

The Chicago contingent initiated the brewing and the gravitational effect of its suchness did the rest. We all loved the beer but the mission was larger than the ordinary joy of a hoppy-sweet quaff. It was driven unseen by an urge to communicate with people, to find our diasporidic tribe, and to connect with other souls adrift on a culture that had lost its center and spun its inhabitants to the four winds to wander lost and bereft with a longing to re-enter the light. Beer, we have learned, has always been a good lubricant for social intercourse!

The Lagunitas Brewing Co. was not so much an act of ordinary ‘foundling’ as it was willed into being by the unspoken desire of supportive beer-lovers in Northern California after which they continued to nurture their creation and urged us forward to fulfill the unifying needs of that same beer-loving diaspora from coast to coast and beyond. It is good to have friends!"
