Beer Review- Heretic Brewing- The Torment

This beer review comes from our Assistant Brewer Rob.

In revelation that Uptown Brewing will soon be brewing a dark Belgian strong ale for Cheers to Belgian Beers I decided to draw musing from this similar style ale.

I tried the Torment by Heretic Brewing in Fairfield, CA. 10% ABV and 20 IBU. Heretic Brewing is a trusty brand that is underrated considering their Brew staff employs Jamil Zainasheff who co-wrote "the" brewing book on Yeast. The Torment in particular is a dark Belgian style that gives off a very pruney-grapey nose that is magnified coming from a bell shaped glass. The color is dark and really deep crimson/brown that emulates the sweet malted tastes coming from this brew.

At first I notice the calling card spiciness coming from a Belgian style yeast. This beer claims to be malty and I would concur. I picked up brown sugar, raisin, and plum flavors with a richness of a heavy caramel. Overall, I would rate this beer highly based on staying true to it's styling, initial nose and taste, and finish that left me able to drink more. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a long-sipping rich beer or someone interested in trying more than just your average Belgian Pale Ale. Join the dark side!

I also recommend Petite Rose and Chocolate Hazelnut Porter by Heretic Brewing! Cheers!
