Brewed for Portland’s self-dubbed Cascadian Black Metal band Barrowlands this dark ale appropriately boasts aggressive hopping from start to finish. Decidedly roasty characters are present but not overbearing as the hops come out to display an excellent bitterness, aroma, and flavor. We set out to make this beer really bitter so imbiber beware that it’s a real palate mosh pit.
Hallertau Blanc, Citra, and Mosaic kick in superb finishing notes of dankness, white grape, and a light tone of papaya. We’d like to think that this is a beer that reflects all the aspects of the music it’s a tribute to: loud but technically mastered, in your face but loaded with nuance, and in the end it just fucking rocks.
